父の顔いつか師となる冬の夢
chichi no kao itsuka shi to naru huyu no yume
my father's face
has become my teacher's
in my winter dream
糶牛に見据ゑられたる寒さかな
seriushi ni misueraretaru samusa kana
how cold !
a caw at the auction market
stares at me
手で払ふ大白鳥の句碑の雪
te de harau ōhohakutyō no kuhi no yuki
sweeping the snow by hannd
from the haiku stone
of the whooper swan
雪催ひ杉間隠れの最上川
yukimoyoi sugima gakure no mogamigawa
the sky threatening to snow |
the Mogami River
among the cedar trees
風花や富士湧水は音立てず
kazahana ya fuji yūsui wa oto tatezu
a flurry of snowflakes |
the spring of Mt. Fuji
makes no sound
寒月が鵜川の底の石照らす
kangetsu ga ugawa no soko no ishi terasu
the winter moon shines
on a stone at the bottom
of the cormorant river
瀧凍てて全山音を失へり
taki itete zenzan oto o ushinaeri
the falls frozen |
the whole mountain
has lost its sound
雪嶺に向く山車蔵を開け放つ
setsurei ni muku dashigura o akehanatsu
toward the snow-covered mountain
opening the door of the storehouse
for a festival car
焚火して小学校の屋根普請
takibi shite shōgakkō no yanebushin
making a bonfire
they repair the roof
of the elementary school
振り向けば一筋の道寒明忌
furimukeba hitosuji no michi kan-akeki
turning round
I see a stretch of road |

妻の愚痴聞き流しをり漱石忌

paying no attention
to my wife's complaints |

feeling myself like a stranger

drying the paper
casting the shadows
of coming and going on the snow
今日よりは冬の蝶なり低く飛ぶ
kyō yori wa fuyu no chō nari hikuku tobu
from now on
it's a winter butterfly
flying low
夕くれて尾を振るばかり冬の鵙
yūkurete o o furu bakari fuyu no mozu
